Custom Lighted Xbox Consoles
Custom Xbox 360 Consoles

Effects are achieved primarily with the use of cold cathode lights intended for use in PC case mods.  With the tiny spaces that are left in an Xbox we come to realize how fragile the glass "neon" light tubes are but once you remove all that pesky protective acrylic there sure are a lot of places they can get tucked into.

All lighting products used in the below mods are available for purchase HERE

80mm cold cathode fans are used for their colored ring, 4" cathodes are used for the front lights.

06/19/05 I needed to post some photos on the web for an eBay auction so here are some shots of the Crystal case with blue controller ports and power button LED.

Master Chief (B-Style)

Same mods as before but the 4" are mounted higher in the front, red controller ports and power button give it a nice evil glow, a 4 LED green 80mm fan mod has also been installed.

An aftermarket clear with blue lighting. Two four inch in the front, and a double round to illuminate the jewel and the Thomson drive window.  Power button LEDs replaced with blue.  Green jewel removed from standard case and added to aftermarket lid.

12/27/04 Updates

Blue Aftermarket clear case with UV cold cathodes, as you can somewhat see in the photos the UV bulbs set off the UV reactive blue case to create an awesome "glowing from within" look in the blue plastic

Black case with clear jewel window, jewel backed in black, 80mm blue cold cathode to illuminate, blue controller ports, blue power button light, blue EL strip for ground effects lighting.

Our cold cathodes have now been updated to a more true red color, also on this console we can see the 4" cathodes have been mounted higher than previous mods of ours, the effect seems to illuminate the faceplate more fully

This mod was done using an original Microsoft crystal Xbox, the Japanese version board and power supply were swapped for US versions.  We then swapped the original power button for one with blue 3mm LED's, installed 4 blue lighted controller ports and added a (of course) an ATA166 cable, advanced cooling kit and modchip for good measure.  Then 5 blue cold cathode lights were added.  4 of our four inch cold cathode tubes were customized by carefully removing their protective plastic shells using a dremmel this process leaves a very delicate glass tube just a bit larger than the lead in a #2 pencil.  Once freed from their casings the tubes themselves are then hot glued into place.  We added two to the front and two shining out the vent sides.  Then after carefully removing the lid tin a circular cathode was added under the Xbox jewel.  Cold cathodes are bright! So bright that when photographing them the case appears to be shot in a dark room when in reality these are shot in normal lighting conditions.

Here is a photo with flash, kind of impressive that the lights can still clearly be seen.

Hopefully soon I will be adding to this article the steps to get an Xbox looking like the above photos.  Stay tuned!

I have been getting many mails regarding these-

Q: "Llamma, can you make one of these for me?"
A: Well yes,

Q:" How much?"
A: Depends on what you want done, usually around $150 if you provide the Xbox and just want basic lighting.

Q: Where do I get the parts to do these myself?
A: HERE

Q: "How can I get one NOW"
A: Walk into our store in Minneapolis MN and ask us, send an email that will get our attention (like describe what you want dont  just tell us "I want a modded box how much is it?").

We are only able to produce a small number as each one takes several hours to create even for the experienced.  We are working to get setup to produce these for our customers but will not begin until we know we can effectively supply to the demand.  I don't want anyone upset with us since we were not able to complete their custom order in a reasonable time period.

For now check out our eBay Auctions to see if we have listed any of our custom made consoles.  See if any have been added to our Custom Xbox Console section of our shopping cart.
