PSP Power Switch Replacement

Repairing your PSP Power Switch can be repaired fairly quickly.
There are two methods for fixing it, one is purchase a new switch or a whole new Powerboard.
I have seen many sites on the internet where they are selling the power switch and not telling you how to put them in.
The most cost effective is to replace the switch, It does require soldering and some other tools.
You can also replace the whole Power Button and ABXY board. This is usually unnecessary unless one of your buttons or LED is not working also.

Here we are going to show you how to solder on a new switch to your board.

Prep/Notes
Use Extreme Caution when removing the old switch, The solder pads on the board can be lifted off VERY easily.

If you pry on the wrong part you might not be able to repair this part, and you will need to purchase a new Power Board.

Tools,
1. Tools for opening your PSP
2. Diagonal wire snips
3. Soldering Iron and solder.
4. New switch

Follow the Disassembly guide until Step# 6 (omitting step 5)

Replacing The Power Switch

Once you get your PBA out of your PSP, remove all of the cables so that it is just like the board in the photo.
Take your small flathead screwdriver OR a Sharp knife.
Pry the clip open that is holding the metal plate on the switch.
Pry the other side off.
Now that you have the clip off there is a spring and the rest of the switch that will fall out. Go ahead and throw this stuff away.
Before going any further look around at the switch now. See the metal tabs inside the  plastic?

You are going to want to remove the plastic, as little metal as possible to not break the solder pads.

Take your diagonal snips and snip off the plastic, don't go so far as to try and break the metal inside, we will use your hot soldering iron to remove those.
The plastic is now cracked and you can pick it off with your finger.
Tin your tip with some extra solder so when you go to heat up the tabs the flow faster.
Once the solder is getting liquidy slide it towards you lightly so you pick up the old piece of metal
Finish desoldering the rest like the others.
Make sure there isn't to much solder on the pads.
Line up the new switch on the board, make sure the little metal pegs on the front of the switch fit inside the groves.
Also make sure that the power legs are lined up with the solder pads.
Tin your soldering iron again and lets get a little ball of solder on the tip. Add more solder to the side of the peg you are soldering.
Continue soldering each peg, Don't go to over board with the solder. It should look like this.
If your board is looking like this. You have lifted a pad...or two....or three.  You are going to have some problems..
First off your switch will not be secured down to the board.
Second The VIA's that you would have to solder to are very small and if you did this much damage it might only get worse.

Hopefully this was a success for you. Luckily if you don't feel comfortable doing this or couldn't get this fixed  you can purchase a new board.
